A More Just NYC is the public name of the Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform, the body chaired by former New York State Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman that produced the 2017 plan to close the Rikers Island jails and replace them with smaller borough-based facilities. The commission researches and advocates for reducing the city's jail population. Its New York City discretionary funding is routed through the Fund for the City of New York as the fiscal administrator.
