BetaNYC

Civic organization

A civic-technology nonprofit founded in 2008 and led by executive director Noel Hidalgo, dedicated to helping New Yorkers use civic design, technology, and data to hold government accountable. BetaNYC helped pioneer NYC's Open Data Law and runs the annual NYC Open Data Week, the NYC School of Data conference, and the Civic Innovation Fellows program that places students with community boards. BetaNYC is a fiscally sponsored project of the Fund for the City of New York (EIN 13-2612524), so it has no city contracts or lobbying filings of its own; its public funding is paid to the Fund and reaches BetaNYC by program name (for example 'BetaNYC Technical Support', 'School of Data', and 'Open Data Week' payments from the Office of Technology and Innovation/MODA and the Brooklyn Borough President).
