Calgon Carbon Corporation, headquartered at 3000 GSK Drive in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and now a subsidiary of Kuraray, manufactures activated carbon and purification products used in drinking water, air, and industrial treatment, according to its own website. It holds a $12.8 million active NYC Department of Environmental Protection contract as of August 2026 (competitive sealed bid) for granular activated carbon at the Croton Filtration Plant, part of $40 million awarded to it since 2019. Two earlier DEP contracts for GAC supply and filter bed reconstruction at the same plant, together worth $26.8 million, were both flagged "Emergency" in the city's own procurement records, accounting for 68% of the company's lifetime NYC contract value awarded without a fresh competitive bid.
