The Sanitation Committee takes up a package of bills reshaping the commercial waste zones program, including one creating a commercial waste zones working group (Int 0353-2026), one requiring the sanitation department to accept commercial waste at city marine and rail transfer stations (Int 0367-2026), and changes to the number of awardees and start date for the Staten Island zone (Int 0911-2026). Two more focus on organics, with Int 0369-2026 requiring an organic waste composting facility in each borough and Int 0356-2026 letting community composters collect and sell organic waste and compost. A final bill, Int 0075-2026, would expand the citywide commercial routing system for sidewalk cleanliness violations.
