BUDGET ADOPTION
The Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 city budget, including the expense, contract, and capital budgets and the resolution setting the property tax rate. Members also enacted eight local laws, among them a bill creating an Office of Child Care and Early Childhood Education to plan free child care for city children (Int 0580), new background check rules for child care providers (Int 0015), and a program to help small retail businesses buy security technology (Int 0553). The Council approved land use items including the Monitor Point and Dewitt Clinton Park North rezonings, passed several resolutions (from MTA two-hour fare transfers in Res 0143 to opposition to a federal order on transgender students in Res 0069), and introduced about a dozen new bills.
