Alianza Dominicana, Inc.

City-funded organization

Alianza Dominicana, Inc. is a Washington Heights nonprofit, established in 1981, that has provided educational, cultural, and social services to New York's Dominican community; NYC's Department of Transportation named a Washington Heights plaza after the organization in 2025 in recognition of its decades of community leadership. Its city contracts ran through the Administration for Children's Services (general preventive and family-treatment child welfare services, mostly RFP-awarded), the Department of Youth and Community Development (Beacon community centers and out-of-school-time youth programs, largely RFP-awarded, with some Beacon renewals not re-bid), and the Department of Education (the "Learning to Work for Transfer Schools" program, RFP-awarded). It also received $1.3 million in City Council discretionary funding across 39 awards between FY2009 and FY2012, mostly for domestic-violence, mental-health, and adult-literacy programming. Of the $20 million in city contracts registered under its name since 2007 (the city paid $14 million to date), 38% of that value, $7.7 million across 19 contracts, was awarded without a fresh competitive bid. It has held no active city contracts
