West Harlem Group Assistance

West Harlem Group Assistance Inc. is a 501(c)(3) community development corporation founded in 1971 to develop and preserve affordable housing and support homeownership and small-business initiatives in West and Central Harlem. It holds $160 million in active NYC contracts as of August 2026 (4 contracts) with agencies including the Department of Homeless Services, HPD, DOHMH, ACS, DFTA and DOE, the largest being a $135.7 million DHS shelter contract and a $16.2 million HPD emergency-shelter contract, and has received over $3 million in City Council discretionary funding since FY2009, mostly for food/nutrition-education and housing-preservation programs.
